Day 16: Dresden

Left Berlin and originally thought we would visit the Charlottenburg Palace on the way out to Prague..but having the freedom of the car we changed or mind and decided to spend a few hours in Dresden, Germany as it was about half way. Gosh I'm glad we did. We saw the most beautiful buildings along the River Elbe. It was everything you could imaging...as you can see by the photos. Dresden took heavy bombing at the end of the war and it resulted in deadly firestorms, but they have managed to rebuild.

Continued on our journey...the car GPS took us right through the middle of Prague during peak hour...very bad traffic. BR coped well. Once through, eventually, we headed to Karlstejn where we had booked accomodation. A quaint small village...no supermarket, shops....pretty much nothing. Some hotels... We were told about one hotel open still open at 7 pm for a meal. Walked about 2 kms to find it....in the rain...when we did its was brilliant...very delicious...first class food...BUT we had been driving for hours, had not eaten much and were a little saddened when only one meal arrived to share. The waiter did not understand that we both wanted to eat the same meal...so she gave us one. Anyone...walked 2kms back in the rain...still a little hungry.
But as it turns out this village is famous for the Karlstejn Castle which is about a km away. The village is situated on the Barounka River. It is really quite lovely...very cute. It is about 30km outside of Prague. Catching the train to the capital tomorrow.
