Day 5: VDNKh

Headed out to this area...about a 20 minute commute from where we are. Wasn't sure what to expect but it was pretty good. Obviously a lot of locals come here on the weekend...there is a small amusement park as well. It actually means "the exhibition of the achievements of the National economy". It was a trade fair location that has been revitalised over time. At some point each of the Russian territories/states built a representation (bragging) structure. There are magnificent fountains etc. Rick and I sat for a while watching the locals play in the fountain. Dangled our feet in the water...very refreshing. Just outside this very big park is the Memorial Museum for Cosmonauts. Spent a few hours in here. It was brilliant...with actual (not replicated) reenrtry capsules...quite burnt and worse for wear. This museum was under the most amazing sculpture with a large rocket on the end of it. Also near here we visited the massive Worker and Kolkhoz monument. It was built in 1939 and is 25 meters tall. Interesting to see that there were electric trams here and a type of hybrid bus. On the way to this sculpture we saw a display of Russian military might with missile launches etc. actually really interesting to see what those bad boys can do and how they control them.
After this we decided to head to another area via the metro to just checkout some architecture. As we exited the station  a lady was singing the  most beautiful opera. The surroundings were serene and really pretty. It was a magical moment. Listened to a few songs and then went for a walk. Beautiful architecture and details on buildings. Gorgeous colours. Did a 2 km lap then stopped for the Russian obligatory ice cream.
Pretty stuffed at this point. Headed home. After 5 days of about 8-9 hours of walking and getting to places...even using the metro you walk up and down hundreds of steps, I am looking forward to sitting on the high speed train for 4 hours as we head to St Petersbug today.
