Having spent a few days in cities, and the the fact that we were heading to the capital Zagrab, we noted that there were two very beautiful looking national parks along the way. So, we decided to visit both and stay overnight in a little town. AND we were glad we did. The first was Kaka National Park. We pulled into a delightful small town by the river and found the information building...very new and very big. A lovely person helped us and pointed out we needed to get tickets and go on the ferry...which we did. Hundreds of people were heading to the falls. Got on the ferry....they run constantly between town and waterfall, and sat back and joyed the sun and scenery for 30 minutes. Arrived....stacks of young Brits there...rather obnoxious...and walked about 500 meters to the falls...that were magnificent. So much water was racing over the edge. You can swim in the 'lake' and get near to the the falls, but a large rope and a very diligent life guard with a very loud whistle stop people going too close. This is where all the young ones headed. BR and I, along with about 1 million people, walked across the bridge...hopeful of a spot to take photos. The whole photo thing is unbelievable...people will kill you for a shot. BR has been taking a photo and people will literally stand right in front of you...they have no idea. Politeness is beginning to wane and the every man for himself mantra is beginning to settle in. It's like camera wars....and I am about ready to set up a ban selfie sticks political party. Nearly had my nostrils cleared out by the selfie stick on more than one occasion. You can be standing somewhere and then from nowhere a long stick dangles in front of you....owner in the next town...no they just push in and it gets a bit annoying. Anyway, back to these magic falls. We had planned to only spend an hour here, but then saw the 3 kilometre walk around the lakes. Decided we would do this and stay another hour. It was a good decision. The walk was really nice...all boardwalks to protect the environment. Bit annoying to see people leave the boardwalk to get a photo....feel like saying something. A fascinating thing we noted and keep stopping to look at was the little fish in the lakes....they all lined up like soldiers, still and all facing the same way...like they were waiting for something. We had never seen anything like that before. Did the lap, marvelled at the natural beauty and then got the ferry back to the car. Drove about 10 kms to the next falls....which we expected to be better...they were not. But the drive was good...mountains and winding roads. Parking was scarce so one of the young parks helpers came over and let us back in a drive way...very nice of her. After having our picnic at these falls....trickle of water...we walked along the road to another part of the lake. Looked at the walk up, up, up a pretty sheer rock face to some caves. There must have been hundreds and hundreds of steps straight up. Decided we were already melting in the 30+ heat and gave it a miss... as much as we love caves. Enjoyed the air con in the car as we headed a few hours further on to a small place near Plitvice National Park...our destination for the
