Day 20: Kutna Hora

Today we left early to drive to Wroclaw in Poland. We wanted to visit Kutna Hora, a UNESCO heritage site. Kutna Hora had developed as a result of the silver mines and this has a large profile in the towns heritage. I had also read about the Bone Church or Sedlec Ossuary. It is supposed to have the bones of between 40,000-70,000 people in it. The bones are used as decorating items in the small church...vault. There is a chandelier that is made from every bone in the human body. Skulls hang everywhere. Somewhat creepy to enter, but interesting nonetheless. From here we drove a about a kilometre to find the Church of St Barbara. GPS sent us on a bit of a journey and we arrived at the back entrance of the church...on someone's property I think. A moment of panic and we decided to go back the way we came...slowly as we were unsure if we were allowed where we were and what direction we were supposed to travel in. Got out safely, parked the car next to a police car...figured it would be safe...and walked to the cathedral. It was a beautiful walk...cobblestones alleys...narrow streets, lovely cottages. After a lovely lunch we set out on the 4 hour drive to Worclaw.

We arrived, checked in to our apartment and was excited on a number of fronts: roomy and modern; had a kitchenette so we cooked a pasta meal, used the washing machine to clean our clothes, watched two movies in English (not had any English since we left)

The small things...lol.
