Spending the next 5 days during around the Transylvanian area. Crossed the border into Romania...was that a holy moly moment. (Though we were a little more expressive than that) We were in a line at border control for an hour. It was a dog's breakfast. Cars everywhere....crazy, crazy, crazy. Finally got to the booth. Handed over our passports. Then they wanted our car rego papers...I guess 2 Aussies driving a new French car doesn't happen often...then they took our passports and rego and went to check stuff out. Finally we were cleared. Headed to Arad....our starting point. Was deserted when we drove in. Found our hotel...which was really nice (had a delicious dinner). It was our stopover to start our drive. Checked out the local area in the morning. One word sticks out is ... White. Things seem pretty rundown out this way though. In fact from what we have seen so far a lot of Romania seems very run down. Saw many towns that had obviously once had manufacturing and industry...but everything abandoned and destroyed or rusted out. One thing that did stick out in the market square was all the watermelons for sale. Heaps and heaps.
